To the relief of all Brooklyn Nine Nine fans, the shows was renewed shortly after being cancelled. This is good news because now we get to see how the show does developing the character of Rosa Diaz. In the show's latest season, it was revealed that the character of Rosa Diaz is bisexual.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this yet. So far they have tackled ever portrayal of her bisexuality with respect and accuracy but still, it kind of feels like an after thought. Five seasons of a show with no hints that she's bisexual and then a big reveal. Sounds a little like a marketing ploy. However, as I said they are doing a good job of her portrayal and by also main her bisexual they are bring light to the validity issues plaguing bisexual members of the LGBT community.
One touching scene that the show does well is when Diaz attempts to come out to her parents. It is a very accurate scene of how confusing coming out as bisexual can be and how non-understanding family can be. The show also makes a point of showing how her character has not changed since the revelation and how she does not bring it up much. This plays back into me questioning how the reveal was sudden but the producers portray it as not changing her character, which I think is a good thing.
